Come Follow Me Easter
This ‘Easter Project’ by The Spirituals gives us a beautiful introduction into our week of Easter. Were you there when they crucified our Lord? I can’t imagine any of us not paying close attention from our side in pre-mortality.
The Crucifixion/Easter Project – The Spirituals ft. PJ Greaves
We try to contemplate the pains Jesus suffered in Gethsemane, but how could we possibly understand them. I do imagine us surrounding Him, buoying as best as we were able, for this was so important for – everything!
Gethsemane – Kenya Clark
Friday – Jesus is arrested, tried by two separate courts, brought before his peers to be tried a third time, sentenced for death, stripped and beaten, carried his own cross to Golgotha, crucified, hung there for several hours, died, body lifted down, wrapped, and laid in a tomb which was swiftly closed – all before sundown when Sabbath began.
His followers must have felt absolutely lost, defeated. Just days before they had heralded him with palm fronds strewn in his path, had followed him, listened to him, seen miracles performed at his hands. He had raised others from the dead – how is it that He, then, could be killed? How little they understood from their limited perspective.

Those with a greater perspective would have been those he went to after his death, those in Spirit Prison or Paradise. Perhaps they recognized better that He had given up his life by His own volition. And they were the reason why; He had to die so he could unlock the gates of death to free them from it. Only He had the keys to unlock death – from within.
Matthew 27 records: 52 “And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.”
While we take extra time to think on the somberness of our Savior’s suffering, let us not forget that Easter is a happy event, a time for celebration! Jesus made it through his ordeal on earth, and He continues with us through ours. He lives! Joyfully! So we will live again too.
Easter Song – Glad
The whole point of the story of Jesus’s life and resurrection is that because of Him, we can be changed. We aren’t stuck in pain and misery, but can have a life of happiness and joy if and when we turn to Him. Why are we so stubborn as to postpone our happiness? Turn to Him. He loves you and doesn’t want you in pain, but will be there with you through your pain.
Then turn to Him again, repent before it gets so bad. And return again. And again. That is building a life of joy.
Live Like That – Kristen Chenoweth (from The King of Kings Movie)
Yes, let’s live like that. Because our God, our creator, has paid the ultimate price for us.
