*CHRISTMAS*- MARY & JOSEPH
By Lisa | Published | No Comments
It’s time to set out the Christmas Nativity, having already been practicing for the Nativity Pageant. What part do you see yourself in this year?
It starts with young Mary, a teenager newly betrothed according to custom. In the tender years where young women face so many changes, they are often given remarkable tasks to carry. This song, ‘Breath of Heaven’, is well loved. We think of this as Mary’s prayer as she is called to bear her life’s work. Listen again. Is the prayer any different than what you pray for in carrying forth your work?
This beautiful portrayal brings to mind the precious young girls I’ve been surrounded with, and what wonders are before them. Like young Mary.
Breath of Heaven- Philadelphia Girls Choir
The young woman, the old woman. Each expecting a child. Unbelievable, scandalous! An understanding between them like no other.
The Light Has Come (Mary & Elizabeth’s Song)- Ashley Corryn
And what about the would-be husband Joseph? His reputation suddenly in question, a test of faith in God, and in Mary. Making the choice to stand with them both. To use the care he’s known in his craft to raising a family, to teach the Messiah. Would we treat our children differently if we knew the remarkable people they are?
I Am a Carpenter (Joseph’s Song)- Cher & Gene Klosner w/ the Fire Choir
This is a joyous song for the family, for in spite of all the difficulties Mary and Joseph faced, the Christmas story is a joyful one.
An Angel Visits Mary & Joseph [Bible Story for Children]- WhimsyTunes
Joseph and Mary- ordered to report in at Bethlehem- the city of their lineage. Had the king’s reign continued through David’s line, the crown would’ve rested on the head of Joseph of Nazareth. Mary, too, was of David’s lineage. How very different their story would have been if the Messiah had been born in a palace. Yet the king is born in a stable; under suspicion, forced to hide in obscurity. What a strange way to save the world.
Mary and Joseph- Tim McGraw
There is so much Christmas music. I hope you enjoy these few selections as you give thanks for Mary and Joseph.
I have more Christmas selections coming, but encourage you to explore on your own to find more.
