*CHRISTMAS*- WISE MEN, STAR & GIFTS

A wise man looks for signs, follows them, brings gifts (with chocolate?); You might be a wise man.

It’s often portrayed that the star hovered over Bethlehem so the wise men simply followed it to find a baby in a manger. More likely, wise men were looking for the signs of His coming; they knew the prophecies. So when the sign of a new star was given they knew where to go to find the newborn king. It would have taken several years for a caravan of camel-travel to go so many miles. As foreigners they would be required to check in for a visitor’s visa. As important men they would pass through Herod himself.

Signs continue. Are we paying attention to them? Are we following our stars in search of holiness? I hope so. I believe so.

I have to include Forgotten Carols. If we are living on earth, we will experience losing our way, by a step or by miles. Confusion surrounds us in many voices, many choices. But what is lost, will also be found again. Look up, and turn to face the star. Walk in that direction.

The budget for Christmas gifts is usually a tight one in our family. And how meaningful is that holiday sweater? What gift can I give that will really matter? We may not have to withdraw its price from our bank account, yet it may cost us everything we think we are.

Yet our gifts may not be so hard to give, giving little by little.

“What you have done unto them, you have done unto me.” (Matthew 25:40)

Let us be wise men. Let us give good gifts.

Thank you to all the artists whose songs share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and fill my life with joy.
