The Japanese art of Kintsugi pieces together broken pottery in a beautiful way. This video short isn’t musical, but it’s a quick way to explain this artform.
Now – raise your hand if you’ve ever felt like broken pottery. Raise again if you can recognize how you have been pieced together. Raise again if you can see yourself as more beautiful now, in spite of your flaws – or perhaps because of them.
Broken Things – Matthew West
“Be kind regarding human frailty, ” Elder Jeffery R. Holland tells us. “Except in the case of His only perfect, Begotten Son, imperfect people are all God has ever had to work with. That must be terribly frustrating to Him, but He deals with it. So should we.”
He Still Chose Me – Claire Quigley
A big question that so many ask is why God would allow such pain and suffering. Doesn’t the law of the harvest teach that what we sow we shall reap? So why do good people suffer, and wicked people seem to thrive?
First of all we must understand perspective. God does not see as we do as mortals, for His perspective goes far beyond this mortal realm. I don’t believe God causes suffering, but yes, he does allow it to happen to even those he loves dearly.
My husband has taught that as parents we instinctively want to quickly jump in to take away our child’s struggles, we don’t want them hurting. And yet, what will they become if they never have to do hard things? If you look at the qualities in yourself that you value most, chances are you gained them through trial, through hard adversity. Why would you want to deprive your child of developing similar traits?
So we stand with them, we support them how we can, teach how we can. We never take away our love. Above all, we trust in someone with a grander perspective, and that we become more like Him through our trials. This is how we become conquerors, no matter the outcome in this mortal life.
Learn in the Dark – Carrie Yost Music
I can’t believe that God is ever idle. He hears us, He knows us, and as we pray He gets the wheels moving to answer our prayers in the best way for us. That doesn’t show as an immediate answer very often. The LeFevre Quartet teaches this in their song:
Between the Prayer and the Answer – The LeFevre Quartet
Know that you have a wise parent in your corner. You CAN do hard things. In fact, you MUST do hard things. Hold to Him and get through them, and stronger for them.
