I had a discussion recently with a friend who was commenting on qualities she had observed in others that she hoped to emulate. One thing we noted was that the ability of being someone who readily served was often learned in our youth and childhood.
And so this episode is dedicated to the marvelous efforts of our youth, and those who teach them.

I find myself often singing this to someone – “Good job! You’re doing a good job! Good job!” Thank you Alicia for putting these words to music that sticks it to the brain. And for One Voice Choir’s echoing the tribute to all who are just trying to do the best we can.

I don’t know any of these people, or even where Franklin Elementary School is, but I was still charmed by this song and video. We teach our children everywhere that we can make a difference. And I would ask any of you who once sang a song like this, who were taught these lessons as a child – what difference are you making? And to whom?

There was a time when I struggled when I felt ‘stuck at home’. I wanted to do something that really mattered . And life loaded me with many other things that often consumed time I should have spent with my own children. The epiphany came one day: That if I wasn’t there as a mother for my children, who else would be? That was what mattered most. Did that make me constantly attentive to them alone? Of course not, because I’ve found many places to serve that I felt also mattered. Yet being present for my children and grandchildren is still the thing that is priority over anything else.
J. Brian Craig is a young minister who wrote this song as a volunteer for Hope Worldwide/SINGHOPE. Brian looks like he’s barely in his thirties, and in a 2021 YouTube post of this song he says he wrote this song twenty years ago. This recording was from 2015, which you may have noticed is the same year as two other videos here. What was happening in 2015?
