Come Follow Me – Alma 36-38
We start today with Nathan Pacheco – a very good place to start.
*Be Thou My Vision – Nathan Pacheco
Does the sun ever stop shining?
Well, of course not. So what gets in the way of our seeing its light?
Clouds. Trees. Tall Buildings. May block out our view of the light source, yet light will still make its way through or around. Even through heavy thunder clouds the sun’s light will still penetrate.
Now when there’s a whole world between us and the sun, it seems pretty dark. Yet even then, the moon’s reflection of the sun’s light can be enough to light our path. And we can see other steady sources of light- much further away- that we can use to navigate our way. If we’ve learned how.
When the Darkness Comes – Kyle Wesley & Colby Caillat
In his masterpiece novel ‘Les Miserable’ Victor Hugo tells of Valjean navigating through the dark abyss of the Paris sewers in his effort to save a young man, Marius. In that utter darkness, how could Valjean possibly see his way? Hugo writes, “The pupil dilates in the night, and at last finds day in it, even as the soul dilates in misfortune, and at last finds God in it.”
Amazing Grace – Il Divo – Live
Remember the dreaded, awful day of September 11, 2001. Were you locked onto the TV and news as I was, shocked over and over at the carnage, hoping for a small glimmer of good news. One thing I observed is that through the following days, weeks, even months, is that in our collected grief most people seemed kinder, gentler to each other. How I wish that could last in our prosperity.
We’ve had some very hot days these past weeks, hovering in 3-digit temperatures. Rain clouds have been scarce. It’s been easy to underappreciate the sun – too much of a good thing and all. But lack of rain clouds is in itself an omen of darkness – we need the water!
And in the darkness, it’s a natural reflex to turn to God. To beg His favor to bring the needed gift of rain.
And we find God, not only in the light of the sun, but in the rain. His love dilates in our sorrow, allowing more to flow within.
Turn to Him. Look to Him. Give thanks for his constant love.
