Come Follow Me Doctrine and Covenants 29
The gospel of Matthew records Jesus as likening Jerusalem of his day as those who “longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and yet you were not willing.” (Matthew 23:37)
Luke records Jesus stating for himself, “How often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen.” (Luke 13:34
Joseph Smith records in the Doctrine and Covenants, “Listen to the voice of Jesus Christ, your Redeemer, the Great I Am, whose arm of mercy hath atoned for your sins; Who will gather his people even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, even as many as will hearken to my voice and humble themselves before me, and call upon me in mighty prayer.” (D&C 29 1-2)
He is gathering. He gives us the invitation to gather in to Him. The same as we parents are quick and willing to offer protection to our little flock of children.
As A Hen Gathers Her Chicks – Still Waters: Bible Reflection & Prayer
How remarkable it is that there are thousands of congregations worldwide who gather together in Jesus’ name; countless individuals who choose to come to Him. And the numbers continue to grow. He claims all who come unto Him.

The gathering is grand and vast! Yet we are brought into the beautiful, intimate image of being tucked under a protective wing.
In 1896 William Cushing looked back at his seventy-three years of life, seeing how God had cared for him in his darkest hours. Passages from Psalms came to mind, “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust,” (91: 4) “Hide me under the shadow of thy wings,” (17:8) “I will trust in the covert of thy wings.” (61:4) With these thoughts he wrote the beautiful lyrics for “Under His Wings.” Ira Sankey put the words to music, and the hymn became a favorite in their meetings.
I hope you might enjoy singing along with this beautiful arrangement. It’s easy to follow along and learn this song.

When I was a Young Woman the song ‘When He Comes Again’ became sort of a theme song of our large group. We’d sing it together in full a’capella harmony as often as we were asked. We might have sounded as good as BYU Vocal Point! More importantly was the testimonies strengthened within each of us as we looked forward to being gathered with Him in the day he comes again.

Even so, He covers us, all who come. We are in His protection. Now.
