MAY 12-18: Seek Ye Earnestly the Best Gifts

Come Follow Me Doctrine and Covenants 46-48
Doctrine and Covenants 46 echoes Paul’s teachings to the Corinthians, admonishing all to ‘seek ye earnestly the best gifts, always remembering for what they are given.’(D&C 46:8) And that while they are given to each individually and perhaps specifically, they are for the benefit of all.
Gifts of the Spirit – Whispering Hope
I’m sure you’ve noticed some of your gifts that seem to come naturally; perhaps faith in Christ, a cheery temperament, or the ability to discern when something is wrong. I hope you can identify some of your natural gifts. They might be the things you don’t think of as special, because they just come easily to you.
Then there’s the gifts we’ve had to work on to develop, practice and practice and practice. Patience, knowledge, and perhaps coming to know that God loves you in spite of your mistakes. Do we value these gifts more or less than those that have come easy for us?
And do we value the gifts we see in others, without envy; but allowing them to affect and change us?
‘For all have not every gift given unto them; for there are many gifts, and to every man is given a gift by the Spirit of God. To some is given one, and to some is given another, that all may be profited thereby. (D&C 46:11-12)

And ye must give thanks unto God in the Spirit for whatsoever blessing ye are blessed with. (D&C 46:32)
Gifts From God – Chris Tomlin, ft. Chris Lane
There are many songs about gifts that come at Christmastime, and they are relevant all year long. The gift of a Savior, the hope of peace, and His love that is for us always, and can be within us.
I am moved by the Bocelli’s extraordinary gifts shown in this next video. Certainly their musical gifts, but add to that their passing on of that gift, sharing it through their generations, and the love that is evident there.
The Greatest Gift – Andrea, Matteo & Virginia Bocelli
I pray you may find all your gifts wrapped in love, and in love continue to practice and share. And may you recognize the divine hands and the love that bless you with each gift.
