Come Follow Me – Ether 6-11
Why is life so hard? Shouldn’t I be blessed for doing things right? Well – yes. Maybe by being entrusted with hard things to become stronger. Remember, the one perfect person who lived on this earth lived a life full of hardship and sorrow. Is that reason to give up and take the easy route? I suppose that depends on where you want to end up. Wimpy and weak? Or resilient and strong?

Leslie, one of my first subscribers and my most favorite twin cousin, introduced this Psalmfest of the 27th Psalm. She writes, “There is so much in this work that makes me weep from deep places in my soul.” So beautifully said, Leslie. I have to also say that singing in a choir – with all voices in harmony as one – is a transcending experience. I wish there were audio recordings of more songs I have sung with a choir.
One of my earliest experiences was singing as a child with Leslie; she suddenly broke off into harmony that I wasn’t expecting. That forced me to be stronger in holding my part, and suddenly our song had a richness beyond the simple melody. Not many years after that I became the one to break into harmony – a lesson well taught. And a place where my lower range could fit. In hearing the harmony as counterpoint to melody, I’ve learned that it’s not just accompaniment and coloring, but definition and clarity that is found there.
There’s also something about singing the Psalms, or any scripture, that brings them to life in the soul. The Psalms especially are meant to be sung. May I suggest you look up Psalm 27 as you’re listening. (NIV) “13. I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. 14. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

He pours His blessings on all men – in both sun and rain – because that’s what our God loves to do.
